Azemmour
The 16th century medina of this coastal town is enlivened by vibrant murals.
About
Founded as by the Portuguese as a trading post in 1513, Azemmour is a classic coastal town. For many, the main attraction is the beach, which attracts surfers and kitesurfers year-round, and has a few ocean-front cafes where you can chow-down. However, the 16th century medina overlooking the mouth of the Oud Er Rbia has been inspiring artists for decades. Wandering the narrow alleys, youâll find the brightly-colored doorways leading to shops selling traditional handicrafts like Berber baskets, colorful textiles, and painted pottery. Another reason to explore the medina: its walls are decorated with murals by local artists.
