Castello di Monselice

Built over the course of several centuries, this castle complex gives a masterclass survey of Italian art and architecture.

About

The Castello di Monselice began as an 11th century residence, which its subsequent owners expanded upon, adding the Castelletto in the 12th century, and massive Ezzelino tower in the 13th century. This defensive nucleus was refined with the construction of the Palazzo Marcello in the 15th century, and the addition of a library in the 16th century. Today, a guided tour of the castle brings visitors through rooms fully furnished with Medieval and Renaissance furniture, artwork, and tapestries, as well as an extensive armory. In addition, visitors can head to the Lombard Museum to see relics unearthed in the surrounding area, including weapons, funerary objects, and even 1500-year-old skeletons.
