First built by the ancient Greeks, this massive hilltop complex has been used by the Romans, Byzantines, Franks, Turks, and Venetians before finally returning to Greek hands. To this day, the fortress is considered the most impressive acropolis in all of Greece. Commanding an entire hilltop, you can walk the ruins at your leisure. Within the mighty walls you'll find remnants from every age, from Turkish baths to an ancient Greek temple to Aphrodite. The spectacular panoramic views alone are worth the walk!
