Caves of the Villa
This unique system of interlinked tunnels offers unusual insight into medieval life.
About
During the middle ages, the inhabitants of La Villa dug cave-like cellars. As the town developed, so did their underground network. Today, exploring with an audioguide will uncover the caveâs various uses throughout the centuries, such as storing wines and food, offering refuge during times of conflict, and the burial of bodies, such as the ossuary under the El Salvador Church. While only one area is still interconnected, it offers a unique insight into the everyday lives of the townâs medieval residents. Please note: the caves are closed on Monday and for siesta.
