About

Founded in 1306, Padula Charterhouse steadily grew over the centuries, and now covers and astonishing 13 acres of land, with comprising of 320 rooms and halls. Visitors today can admire the biggest cloister in the world that is part of the structure, the fabled elliptical staircase of white marble, amazingly decorated library or the chapels' altars with their scagliola works that are widely considered as one of the most spectacular in the country, if not the world. Along with the beautiful art and architecture, the chapterhouse also houses the Archaeological Museum Western Lucania, where artefacts from potohistory to the Hellenistic Age or on display.
