Eger

The fascinating historical town of Eger in Northern Hungary is famous for its castle and the beautifully preserved Baroque architecture that can be found everywhere.

About

The town’s top attraction is the thirteenth-century castle and there are models and drawings in the Bishop’s Palace that show the history of the castle. Visitors can also watch a fun 3D film about the castle and Hungary before either taking a tour or simply exploring the castle grounds at their own pace. To get a feel of authentic Hungarian history, then walk along the huge hand-built walls that are hundreds of years old and experience how it must have felt to be under attack all those years ago. The walls provide fantastic views over Eger and excellent photo opportunities. Another popular reason for visiting Eger is that it is famous for its wines, in particular, the ā€˜Bull’s Blood’, known as Hungary’s most recognizable wine. Spare a few minutes to sample this traditional delicacy in either the castle restaurant or one of the many others that can be found in the town.
