Erfurt
The former medieval trading town of Erfurt fell into decay during the Cold War but since the fall of communism has been restored to its previous elegance.
About
Once known as āThuringiaās Romeā, Erfut is now a picturesque city with charming cobbled streets and renovated Renaissance buildings. The city is a great place to wander around as it's compact, easy to navigate and mostly pedestrianized. A myriad of architectural designs and colors can be found on every corner, side street, and passageway, as the old sits comfortably alongside the new. The cityās original medieval grandeur is still on display in the cathedral and at St Severus Church, the Old Synagogue and the cobblestone street made up of 32 semi-timbered buildings that line the Merchantsā Bridge. Then there are the more modern boutiques, department stores, street cafes and riverside cafes to enjoy. The city has excellent craft shops and galleries to browse and if time permits, check out the fortress with its wonderful views of the surroundings. This can all be serenely finished off with a relaxing drink in one of Erfurtās many picturesque cafes.
