Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site
Discover early Native American history in the best-preserved prehistoric settlement in the Southeast.
About
The Etowah Indian Mounds were left behind by the Early Mississippian people, who inhabited the area as early as 1000 AD. This 54-acre archaeological site has revealed much about the people who once lived here through the six earthen mounds, plaza, village area, borrow pits and defensive ditch that have so far been excavated. And what you can visit today is just 9% of the total site! Along with being able to explore the prehistoric settlement, you can get a more detailed look at this lost culture through the artifacts and displays exhibited in the on-site Etowah Archaeological Museum.
