Holasovice
Visitors stopping by this remarkable UNESCO-listed village can catch a glimpse of nineteenth-century rural life in this recently restored and repopulated hamlet.
About
This rare example of a Baroque village may be small but provides plenty of food for thought long after leaving. HolaĆĄovice was first mentioned in documents in 1263 and three centuries later, was almost wiped out by Bubonic Plague, which today is commemorated by the Plague Column located in the north of the village. Following the end of the Second World War, the German speaking villagers were displaced and the village farms abandoned in a state of disrepair. It remained as a âghost villageâ throughout the communist era until 1990 when it was extensively restored and today has over 140 inhabitants. Visitors can walk through this low-key tranquil hamlet that still remains unspoiled today and experience first hand the feel and architecture of life two-hundred years ago. The village also features a replica Stonehenge built from local stones and positioned on a site selected by psychotronic experts.
