Hung Temple
Dedicated to the mythical first kings of Vietnam, the annual festivities held at this temple are recognized by UNESCO for their cultural importance.
About
The HÚng temple is actually a complex dedicated to the HÚng Vưƥng - the mythical, prehistoric founders of Vietnam. According to tradition, the temple stands atop the prehistoric capital of Van Lang, which was selected by Hung Vuong I after having traveled to 99 places but found none to his satisfaction. The temple itself is relatively new and well maintained, so visitors can enjoy a pleasant stroll, but the real draw is the additional look the temple gives into Vietnamese culture. In fact, the festivities known as GiᝠTᝠHÚng Vưƥng held every 10th day of 3rd lunar month are recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity for their ties to the Vietnamese national and cultural identity.
