Colombia
Jardin
Surrounded by lush greenery, this colorful town lives up to its name!
About
This almost untouched colonial town just south of Medellin provides a colorful sanctuary in the middle of lush jungle surroundings. Sip on a traditional cup of ātintoā, a heavily sweetened Colombian coffee, as you enjoy people watching in the main plaza. Throughout the town and surrounding areas, you are able to view various magnificent tropical birds- see if you can spot the āAndean cock-of-the-rockā! In the middle of the town, the Basilica of the Immaculate conception is not to be missed. This neo-Gothic church is a marvel to the town, built in 1872, it can be seen from almost anywhere in the town. One of the splendors of Jardin is La Cueva del Esplendor, a 3 hour hike (or shorter by horse ride) to a cave just outside the town, that includes a beautiful waterfall streaming through the caveās roof. Or you can take a very unique cable car from one end of the town to the other, in a wooden gondola operated by a mechanical pulley system- not for the faint of heart!
