Kosice
Kosice is the largest city in eastern Slovakia. With its lively past and distinguished street art scene, it's no wonder why the city was named the European Capital of Culture in 2013.
About
Kosice is situated on the river Hornad in the valley. This diverse city is a center for culture, industry, science, and commerce. Nearly all of Kosiceās monuments are gathered in the compact city center, Hlavne Namestie Square. The cobblestone streets are pedestrianized, making it easy to get around on foot. The main sight in the square is St. Elisabeth Cathedral, the largest cathedral in Slovakia. The 11th century cathedral is regarded as one of the most dazzling Gothic structures in the world. St. Michaelās Chapel (the second oldest building in Kosice) and the State Theater can also be found in the Old Town. Kosice has a vast cafe culture and many restaurants with excellent wine selections. Enjoy a glass of wine while wandering the cobblestone streets and taking in all that Kosice has to offer.
