Kota Tinggi
Off most touristsâ radar, this large town is a quiet place to surround yourself with local culture and flickering fireflies.
About
Kota Tinggi is a great place to immerse yourself in local culture, with the traditional handmade noodles being a commonly recommended reason to visit. While exploring the streets, make your way to the town temple - it might be fairly recent, but itâs tourist friendly and houses an impressive statue of Guan Yin. At the Kota Tinggi Museum you can learn more about the townâs status as the major seat during the Johor Sultanate, and Johor culture, through display exhibiting huge paintings, historic weapons, ancient musical instruments, and century-old porcelain. History lovers will want to head to the northern outskirts to see the Kota Tinggi Mausoleum, where many ruling personalities were interred, including Sultan Mahmud, who was murdered by his nobles in 1699. If youâre passing through town after dark, donât miss the surreal boat ride at Kota Tinggi Firefly Park, where youâll be mesmerized by thousands of fireflies!
