Kuchlbauer Tower

The elements of this 34-metre observation tower were carefully selected to represent the elements of beer and the art of brewing.

About

Originally designed by famous Austrian architect Friedensreich Hundertwasse as a 70-metre tower, the plan was resdesigned by his long-standing friend and co-worker, Peter Pelikan, after Hundertwasse’s death during the planning stages of the project. Featuring pleasant round shapes, dancing window’s, and wavy floors, Kuchlbauer Tower is unlike any other building in the world. The tower is located on the grounds of the famous Kuchlbauer Brewery and, both inside and out, its design pays homage to Bavarian beer. This whimsical tower features a collection of 4,200 Weissbier glasses, along with an exhibition on the brewing process, and is topped by a 12-metric-ton gold-plated observation ball. Construction on the tower began in April 2007, and it opened its doors to the public in January 2010. Since its opening, the tower has become a vibrant part of the town’s identity, and has even been incorporated into the town logo.
