Though it might have only been settled 1875, Lakeland, FL has quickly grown into a pleasant retreat from nearby Tampa. A mining boom town for much of its history, the city has also preserved its past, and is home to over eight historic districts! Head to the the legendary Historic and Antiques district for antiques dealers, specialty shops, art galleries, and museums lining the picturesque streets. If you're a modern architecture lover, don't miss the Florida Southern College campus to see the largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. For a bit more history and culture, the Polk Museum of Art is one of the best in the state. Of course, for a city named Lakeland, the waterfront is the main attraction, and the beautiful Frances Langford Promenade delivers in spades!
