Lichtenstein Castle

Nicknamed ā€˜Neuschwanstein’s little brother’, nineteenth-century Lichtenstein Castle stands an impressive 2600 feet above sea level perched on the edge of the Swabian Alps in Germany.

About

This Neo-Gothic castle was built in 1840-1842 based on the novel ā€˜Lichtenstein’ by Wilhelm Hauff after the original castle built in 1200 was destroyed several times and eventually lapsed into ruin. The castle complex comprises other nineteenth-century buildings, a chapel, a large garden and the romantic courtyard. The bedchambers of the count reflect the opulent grandeur of the period when the castle was built while the well-preserved weapons and artifacts tell the castle's history as a hunting lodge. What the castle lacks in size, it more than makes up for with its superb views of the valley, dotted with long-extinct volcanoes that are now covered in lush greenery. This not so well known castle is the ideal location for those who fancy a spot of sight-seeing without the hordes of tourists that can sometimes be found at the more popular castles. There is also a castle restaurant for those in need of refreshment.
