Manuel Antonio
Costa Rica's most popular national park has four pristine beaches, tropical forests, and abundant wildlife.
About
Manuel Antonio National Park was established in 1972 through local conservation efforts. It is Costa Rica's most visited natural sanctuary despite being one of its smallest. Spanning just 1,983 hectares of land and 25,634 hectares of marine area, this Pacific coastal gem attracts millions with its perfect blend of pristine white-sand beaches, rocky islands, and lush tropical forests. The park features four stunning beaches, Manuel Antonio, Espadilla Sur, Tesoro, and Playita, which are connected by accessible hiking trails that wind through habitats supporting remarkable biodiversity. 109 mammal species and 184 bird species call Manuel Antonio National Park home. Visitors routinely encounter three-toed and two-toed sloths, three monkey species (howler, squirrel, and capuchin), iguanas, coatis, and numerous birds, including toucans and parakeets. The park's thoughtfully designed infrastructure, including bioclimatic visitor centers and universal access facilities, balances human enjoyment with environmental protection. Please note that with daily visitor limits of 600 people, early arrival is recommended during peak season.
