Museo Casa Del Tejido Antiguo
Mayan history, culture, textile traditions, and Guatemala's national dish are shared with visitors at this museum.
About
The Museo Casa Del Tejido Antiguo opened in 1998 with the goal of sharing the diverse Mayan culture with visitors. On a tour of the museum, youâll learn about the history and symbology found in Mayan textiles through the regional weavings, patterns, and embroideries on display, and see demonstrations of weaving, beading, and embroidery. Three different weaving techniques are exhibited on the permanent loom installation. Visitors are then encouraged to sample pepian - Guatamalaâs national dish that blends Spanish and indigenous flavors. Thereâs also a shop where you can buy handicrafts made by local artisans. As the museum founder is an artisan himself, you can rest assured that this is for the community - 65 percent of the profits go directly back to them.
