The city of Leerdam is synonymous with high quality glass-works, so it’s no wonder that it is home to the National Glass Museum. Housed in two villas, the museum’s richly varied collection has steadily grown over the years, so that it’s now able to cover the history of glassblowing, as well as explore more focused concepts, like the development of Dutch design and visual art in glass from the 19th century. Among the museum’s 7,500 piece collection is the Netherland’s largest and most complete exhibition of 20th century glass-work. Along with appreciating the finished products, it’s also possible to arrange a live glass-blowing demonstration at Leerdam’s famous glass-works.
