About
The National Zoo of Morocco in Rabat is an excellent outing for the whole family to see Africaâs rich biodiversity up close. The zooâs 1,000 animals live in five African biozones: the Sahara Desert, Atlas Mountains, tropical forests, savanna, and wetlands. These biozones replicate conditions in the wild and also feature educational exhibits on the evolution of species over thousands of years to fit the extreme conditions of these African ecosystems. The main feature of the zoo is the lions. They are said to be descendants of the now-extinct Barbary lions from the Atlas Mountains. While they are not full-bred, these lions still provide a piece to the genetic puzzle. The zoo also participates in conservation, research, and rehabilitation efforts. During your visit, you may even have the chance to feed the giraffes or take a guided tour.
