Notre Dame en Vaux

The 56 bell chime in this elegant UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the largest in Europe.

About

Built between 1157 and 1217, this elegant Cathedral combines Gothic and Romanesque architecture into a harmonious whole. The elegant façade with Gothic ornamentation is flanked by two Romanesque towers. Inside, the first thing many visitors notice are the beautiful 16th century stained-glass windows, which tell tales from the Bible. Reaching nearly to the vaulted ceiling, the intricately carved organ contrasts beautifully with the simple white walls around it. Visitors can also climb the bellowtower to see the carillon’s 56 bells.
