Opocno Chateau

This historic chateau was first mentioned as far back as 1068 and is a National Cultural Monument of the Czech Republic.

About

Located in the town of Opočno, the chateau is a highly valuable example of Bohemian architecture. Over the years, ownership of the chateau has changed hands between various state authorities and the ancestors of the ruling families. As of 2016, there is an ongoing legal battle between the state and the Colloredo-Mansfield family, who owned and lived in the chateau prior to confiscation by the Nazis in 1942. The chateau remains open to the public and along with its dazzling façade and architecture, it is home to a huge collection of paintings, an armory that covers three centuries of weapons and a huge library containing over 10,000 volumes of works. Visitors can also admire the chateau’s dazzling array of antique furniture. After sampling this historic delight, then maybe take a stroll around the beautiful nineteenth-century chateau park, which contains two lakes and a monastery, all of which add to the romance of the occasion.
