Platomon Castle
This impressive medieval fortress was built for Christian crusades heading to the Middle East.
About
Built in 1204 by Franconian knights as a waypoint on their way to Constantinople, when the Crusades ending, the castle changed hands several times. Today, the visitors can admire the site's impressive walls and towers while soaking in stunning views of the coast. Throughout the sprawling complex, many smaller structures such as the remains of churches and houses at the castle testify to its past life. The well-preserved cannons are remnants of the time when the castle defended nearby towns from pirates and raiders.
