Rock City Gardens
Enchanting stone formations, native forest, and panoramic views await at this mountaintop park.
About
Right on the border of Georgia and Tennessee, the Rock City Gardens embody the beauty of the south. Though popular with hikers and geologists through the 19th century, it was Garnet Carter and his wife Freida who developed the area into the attraction of today. While Garnet created the nationâs first mini golf course here, it was Freida who mapped the trail through the rock formations and planted wildflowers to showcase Rock CItyâs natural beauty. Today, you follow that same trail among prehistoric rock formations, ranging from narrow to huge boulders and whimsical shapes in the Enchanted Garden, all surrounded by some 400 native plant species. After crossing a stone bridge over a waterfall, you end up at âLoverâs Leapâ. From this lookout, you can easily see 3 states (Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama), and on a clear day, up to seven.
