About
Founded by the passionate conservationist Sammilan Shetty, Sammilan Shettyâs Butterfly Park spans 7.35 acres of semi-forest land at the foothills of the Western Ghats. Witness the mesmerizing Southern Birdwing, Karnataka's State butterfly, as it gracefully emerges from its pupa and takes its inaugural flight. With a wingspan of 140-190 mm, this butterfly captivates visitors with its stunning red and yellow hues. The park, established in August 2013, boasts a thriving butterfly population, with 151 recorded species, including the Malabar banded peacock, southern birdwing, Malabar banded swallowtail, clipper, autumn leaf, and dark evening brown. Embark on a captivating 30-minute walk through the park, guided by Sammilan Shetty himself, and delve into the intricate life cycle of butterflies. The park's unique setting, under the shade of leafy canopy trees, provides an ideal habitat for these delicate creatures. Learn about the symbiotic relationship between ants and butterflies, where ants protect butterfly larvae from predators in exchange for honeydew secretion.
