Sanssouci

This UNESCO site was built as a summer palace for the King of Prussia, offering as a retreat from political and social pressures.

About

Named for the French phrase which translates to 'without worries', Sanssouci is large, charming, single story villa, painted a pleasing yellow. The Rococo architectural style perfectly complements the romantic, escapist ambience of the palace. Surrounded by attractive gardens and Sanssouci Park, Sanssouci's original resident (Frederick the Great) took great time and care in creating a fitting environment for his summer retreat. Of particular beauty are the terraced vineyards which allow for a panoramic vista of the gardens. Inside the palace, rooms are decorated with paintings by French 18th-century artists and have been remodeled to reflect the original interior dĂŠcor popular in the 1740s when Sanssouci was built. Charming and whimsical, Sanssouci is a delightful example of the Rococo style of architecture that has been preserved and maintained with the upmost care and dedication and should not be missed.
