Schloß Holte

This brightly-colored castle stands out along Germany’s more subdued forests.

About

Schloss Holte was built as a hunting lodge between 1608 and 1616 but has since expanded into a full-blown castle, complete with several towers, a chapel, and a moat. In true European fashion, Schloss Holte was built and renovated in a mix of styles to reflect the changing times. Renaissance and Baroque themes are seen throughout the castle and its grounds, with a moat dating back to the early 1600s. Please note that the castle is privately owned and only viewable from the castle gates. It is possible to enter the courtyard as part of a guided tour of the whole town and on rare occasions, such as a concert or anniversary.
