Stralsund
This coastal town was founded in 1234 and today, its rich heritage is reflected in the UNESCO World Heritage Site that is Stralsund Old Town.
About
The Old Townâs Gothic turrets, ornate portals, vaulted arches and the classic red-brick Gothic gabled architecture all contribute to the ambience of this vibrant city's historic cobbled streets and its many attractions. One of Stralsundâs more unique UNESCO buildings and the town landmark is the City Hall that stands on the Market Square with an appearance that is striking both on the inside and the outside. Built back in 1238, the façade was deliberately intended to showpiece the wealth of the city and today is undoubtedly the most photographed building in the town while the façade and the buzzing passageway deserve to be captured on film more than once. Visitors can also explore the City Hall with its colonnaded gallery as they would any suburban street. If that is not enough to satisfy your curiosity then why not visit the City Hallâs cellars â the largest Gothic vaults in Europe.
