Sychrov

Sychrov Castle in Bohemia is a unique example of a late nineteenth-century neo-gothic chateau style castle and is surrounded by an English-style park.

About

This beautiful castle provides an idyllic escape from the hustle and bustle of any large city. The castle is still furnished exactly as it was at the end of the Second World War when the German owners had to flee and leave everything behind. Much of the beauty of the castle can be seen in the wood carved ceilings, walls, floors, and built-in furniture. The floors are laid in patterns using various types of wood while the spectacular etched and painted glass in the dining room features elaborately dressed female figures, knights on horseback and religious icons in bright colors. Guided tours are available that take less than an hour and you can stroll through the beautifully preserved gardens in the surrounding park. Before leaving what feels like a small part of France in the Czech Republic, maybe relax with a coffee in the former estate greenhouse now known as ‘The Orangery’.
