Though the hilltop has been fortified since Roman times, the current castle was built during the 15th century, a testament to the tumultuous history of Ottoman and Hungarian occupation. Under the Ottomans, the 6,296 square metre citadel housed a permanent army. The hill is nearly vertical on three sides, leaving only a winding approach up to the castle’s gate. Here, the charming Čaršija quarter, with a 17th century clock tower - one of only four still functioning, a rebuilt historic mosque, as well as old wooden market shops and tile-roofed cafes. The entrance-ticket-cum-postcard allows visitors to roam the grounds, or pay a visit to the museum tower.

Yes! A return trip will take you back to your city of origin in the same size car in which you arrived. Return trips can be booked for the any day. You can also add customized sightseeing stops separately for each trip! Don’t worry if you don’t know your exact address at the time of booking - you’ll have the opportunity to update us closer to your travel date. Make sure to select “Return” when you start the booking process, then choose the dates and times of your departures.

Browse and add sightseeing stops along the way by following the booking instructions provided on-screen. Select “One Way” or “Return” to change the type of trip you need. You will receive the vehicle that best fits the number of travelers in your group, ranging from a sedan to a van for groups of up to 7. Depending where you travel, you can book anything from a sedan comparable to a Toyota Corolla to a Mercedes V-Class to a Classic Cuban Car. While the exact model may vary, we always ensure that the vehicle provided meets your needs in terms of safety, reliability, and comfort. You may be upgraded to a larger vehicle class free of charge depending on availability. Since our largest vehicle seats 7, for groups larger a combination of vehicles will be used. We will send you the exact vehicle details a few days before your trip.
