Once the hunting castle for Emperor Maximilian in 1492, todayâs visitors to the castle are guided around the rooms in a quirky and entertaining way. You can listen to the voices of Emperor Maximilian and the ancestors of Tratzbergâs modern-day owners while medieval music and real life sound effects accompany the narration, bringing the history of the castle and its bedazzling showrooms into life. Definitely worth watching out for are the armory, the Gothic Fuggerâs Room, the Queenâs Room and the incredible mural showing the genealogy of the Hapsburgs in Hapsburg Hall. Visitors can also take the short ride on the âTratzberg Expressâ â the small open train that runs around the grounds â visit the medieval shop, spend time in the castle restaurant or simply take a walk around the grounds.
