Tratzberg chateau

Experience time travel back to the Middle Ages in the magical thirteenth-century hilltop Tratzberg Castle that still retains its original furniture and period pieces.

About

Once the hunting castle for Emperor Maximilian in 1492, today’s visitors to the castle are guided around the rooms in a quirky and entertaining way. You can listen to the voices of Emperor Maximilian and the ancestors of Tratzberg’s modern-day owners while medieval music and real life sound effects accompany the narration, bringing the history of the castle and its bedazzling showrooms into life. Definitely worth watching out for are the armory, the Gothic Fugger’s Room, the Queen’s Room and the incredible mural showing the genealogy of the Hapsburgs in Hapsburg Hall. Visitors can also take the short ride on the “Tratzberg Express” — the small open train that runs around the grounds — visit the medieval shop, spend time in the castle restaurant or simply take a walk around the grounds. Enchanting on the outside and utterly authentic on the inside, the castle is the perfect stop-off for visitors of all ages.
