Today, Xpujil is a quiet village thatās a popular home base for tourists looking to explore the famous Mayan ruins dot the region. Many visitors, however, donāt know that Xpujil itself was once a thriving Mayan settlement with ruins of its own. Inhabited between the 4th and 13th centuries, most of the structures here are typical of the Classic RĆo Bec architectural style, including their use of āfalseā temples, which have no feasible function. However, the dully named āStructure 1ā is unique in the region for its three-tower construction, rather than the usual two.
