Visitors can also take a 10-minute walk to the nearby Volerie des Aigles (Eagle Sanctuary) for an up-close raptor show in the castle’s ambience. In Colmar, head to La Petite Venise to stroll around amidst picturesque canals and pastel colored homes. Then, visit the Old Town to see the Rue des Marchands and the bustling Place de l’Ancienne Douane. The Rue de Tetes is a popular spot for photos, as this “House of Heads” boasts an ornate facade. Be sure to stop in the Unterlinden Museum, which houses the famous Isenheim Altarpiece. Travelers also enjoy the covered market and the quiet majesty of the Place de la Cathedrale. While in the city, visitors should sample Tarte Flambee, a thin, crispy Alsatian-style pizza.

The total trip covers approximately 62 miles (100 kilometers) with Haut-Koenigsbourg located about one hour from Strasbourg, and Colmar an additional 30 minutes away. The full-day trip includes 2 hours at the castle and 3 hours in Colmar.
The nearby Eagle Sanctuary offers impressive raptor demonstrations in a castle setting. It features eagles, vultures, and other birds of prey in flight shows that complement the medieval atmosphere.
