Zeebrugge to Maredsous Abbey and Dinant: Private day trip

Born as a hilltop castle in the 11th century, the town of Dinant grew and flourished through the Middle Ages, though its unique position also frequently put it in harm’s way. Over its long history, Dinant was damaged or destroyed multiple times, most recently in 1914, when German troops attacked the town and executed 675 of its inhabitants. Today visitors can enjoy a scenic walk along the Meuse before heading up to the citadel for some stupendous views of the surroundings before heading into the exploring the dungeons, kitchens, and weapon museum. The home of Adolphe Sax, inventor of the saxophone, is now a museum dedicated to the man and his invention. Perhaps the most distinctive building in Dinant is the 15th century Collegiate Church of Our Lady with its signature onion-domed tower and onion dome and multi-staged lantern.
