This prolific composer lived and worked in Eisenstadt, and following his death in Vienna in 1809, his remains were brought back here for burial. His influence can still be felt throughout the city, particularly at the elegant Esterhazy Palace. The beautiful baroque palace provides visitors with a fascinating view of the resplendent lifestyle at the royal court. The centerpiece of the palace is the Haydnsaal, which takes its name from the composer and is hailed as one of the most beautiful concert halls in the world today. HaydnтАЩs tomb lies in the chapel attached to the church known as the Bergkirche, which in addition to the stunning ceiling fresco of тАЬThe Ascension of Christ", painted in 1722, houses the famous organ that Haydn, then in later years, his pupil Beethoven, played when premiering various works.
