Victoria Harbour was built in the shadow of DunbarтАЩs ruined medieval castle in the 1840s. The castle ruins are now home to over 600 nesting kittiwakes - the most accessible colony in Britain. At the opposite end of the harbour is an 18th century fort and battery, built to defend the town against the privateers who stalked the area during the American War of Independence. Today the battery is a seaside park, amphitheatre, and art space. This well-protected harbour is a safe-haven for a lively commercial fishing fleet that frequently lands shellfish - meaning DunbarтАЩs a great place to enjoy some seafood. Sammy, the resident seal is often seen patrolling the harbor in hopes of the fishermen giving him a fresh fish supper.
