Woerschach Gorge

At midday, the sunlight runs perfectly through this narrow gorge for almost 2 hours.

Situated behind the town of Woerschach, the water of the Woerschach brook has cut deep into the mountainside, creating vertical walls and many small waterfalls. Gabriel Schally, a local sawmill owner, initiated the construction of wooden trails through the narrow walls of the gorge for the public in 1901. Before Schally made the gorge accessible to the public, it was formerly used to transport wood and charcoal from the mountainside into the valley. This way of transporting resources was noticeably dangerous, so it was stopped around 1880. Now, visitors can observe the bolts from the original trail on the imposing rocks. The 2 hour hike will invoke a change in landscape and end at the Wolkenstein castle ruin.
