Overview: a car trip from Cesky Krumlov to Prague

Although Cesky Krumlov and the nation's capital both feature fairytale old towns, they offer contrasting experiences, just like the car trip from Cesky Krumlov to Prague. One moment, it's traditional half-timbered villages sprawling along flat plains. Next, it's medieval castles sitting on picturesque rolling hilltops.

But the journey begins in the hustle and bustle of Cesky Krumlov, weaving through the historical lanes built for horses and karts. The Vltava River will guide you to sweeping roads along fertile meadows with views of rugged hills in the distance.

A stop at Cesky Budejovice, the home of Budweiser, will fuel your sense of adventure through the oil painting that is the Czech countryside. Rustic farms and idyllic towns sit between the shades of golden fields, green woodlands, and blue skies, making up the landscape on the road to the capital.

Once pitch-black Gothic spirals poke above Prague's terracotta roofs, you'll know you've reached the journey's end. But before you can embark on this breathtaking voyage, you must uncover how to travel between the cities. Luckily, you came to the right place, as our exclusive Cesky Krumlov to Prague travel guide has everything you need for a stress-free journey!

About Prague

After your thrilling Cesky Krumlov to Prague transfer, you'll arrive in the Czech capital and Europe's 43rd most populous city. It sits in the country's northwest along the banks of the Vltava River, where almost 1.4 million friendly locals reside. It's also only a short 60-mile (96.5-km) drive to the German border.

Early Prague

After the first Celtic tribe arrived in Prague sometime around 500 BC, Germanic settlers quickly followed to inhabit the land. These groups fought the invading Roman Empire in the 1st century but were eventually defeated.

Rome ruled the land until the empire's fall in 476 AD, and four centuries later, the first settlement of present-day Prague was built. The Medieval Age was the region's most significant period when Prince Borivoj ordered the construction of Prague Castle in 880. By 1355, Charles IV had named Prague the capital of the Holy Roman Empire.

Prague's fortunes started to dwindle after Louis II's death. In the 19th century, the city endured Habsburg rule, the Thirty Years' War, and Austro-Hungarian occupation.

Recent Prague

Prague became the capital of the newly founded Czechoslovakian state in 1918. But only three decades later, Hitler's German forces invaded and occupied the region until the end of World War II. And it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows after its liberation.

The city fell under the influence of the Soviet Union for over 40 years until the Velvet Revolution. In 1993, the Velvet Divorce led to the peaceful breakup of Czechoslovakia, with Prague and Bratislava becoming the capitals of their newly established states.

Modern Prague

Today, Prague reminds us of its prosperous past. Lavish palaces nestle between colorful baroque buildings, and Prague Castle dominates the west bank of the Vltava River. Towering gothic towers stand above the cityscape, and gems like the astronomical clock, the opera house, and the grand Old Town Square litter its historical quarter.

But Prague isn't just about good looks. It has a vibrant yet welcoming personality. Laid-back beer gardens scatter the cobbled streets, and authentic eateries still serve self-service cuisine. Walking along the promenade or roaming the city parks makes you forget you're in a busy metropolis, home to over a million residents!

Daytrip is awesome

тАЬDaytrip is awesome. Thumbs up. I booked drivers through daytrip for a number of my destinations in Europe. The cars are all comfortable and can fit our luggages nicely. The most important is that the drivers are friendly and drove us safely to our destinations. Attila fetches us from Budapest to Vienna and stop over at Pandorf for 5 hours. I had 30 mins delay at pandorf because of tax refund. Attila is so nice and patience and waited for me without complaint. Mike drove us from Vienna to Cesky Krumlov. Because car is not able to enter the pedestrian street, Mike waited for us to text him before he leave to ensure we reach our hotel safely. Jonathan drove us from Cesky Krumlov to Prague. He informed us ahead that some of the castles that we wanted to visit is closed so that we can made changes to our plan and not waste our time and money visiting sites that is closed. Therefore will definitely recommend Daytrip to friends.тАЭ

10/10 recommend, convenience, safety, friendly, affirdability

тАЬWe used the service from Munich to Prague, Prague to Cesky Krumlov and Cesky Krumlov to Munich. Marius was our driver for 2 of 3 trips and Michal for 1. They were great. Mydaytrips gave us their photo, vehicle description and license ahead of time. This made us feel safe. Both drivers were on time, had cold drinks for us and knew the history of where they were taking us. Marius even bought us great coffee and on the second trip gave our son a gift of his favorite candy. It was like traveling with a good friend. We learned so much about the areas we were visiting. Great Driver

тАЬWe booked via KC shuttle, but our driver, Michal, actually works for this company but he assumed the two companies have a relationship as I clearly booked through CK Shuttle. We went from Prague to Cesky Krumlov, with a visit to Kutna Hora on the way. Michal reviewed what I indicated I wanted to do in Kutna Hora when he picked us up. He drove us there, and we had a great conversation. When we arrived he recommended the ticket we buy, he walked us to the churches we visited, gave us a quick walk around the village which I asked for, and helped us identify a restaurant to get some lunch. At my request he joined us for lunch and we visited more, mostly my wife and I quizzing him about Czech life. Michal took great care of us, got us to our destination on time, and carried our luggage. Great trip and excellent driver.тАЭ

Day trips are they necessary!

тАЬOn my 4th full day in Prague I booked a day trip to Cesky Krumlov thru Getyourguide trips. The hotel pick-up drops you at a common meeting point where all the day trips start. There was confusion as to which bus to board and we started after a 20-minute delay from schedule. Although I opted for an English speaking guide the local guide Karolina was just managing with her heavily accented English. She spoke at length for 2 hours in the 2 and 1/2 hours drive to Cesky largely talking to herself as if from a textbook or rather wikipedia about the nitty gritty details of the Rosenberg family. The end result almost the entire bus slept, retained nothing from the monologue and often could not even take a nap from the incessant outpouring of jumbled words. We arrive in Cesky and the castle though big can be skipped just like the Prague Castle. The bejeweled remains of St. Reparat in the museum was something unique. The town was overcrowded with tourists. the view from the tower excellent. It is a mini Prague. as an afterthought should have spent the day in Prague and done more sightseeing.тАЭ

GREAT EXPERIENCE

тАЬWe had made a booking from Prague to Cesky Krumlov and 3 stops in between at Karlstjen Castle, Konopiste Castle and UNESCO heritage village Holasovice. Our friend Valcav reached in time at Prague hotel. Drive was scenic through countryside roads and Vaclav was providing information about different places, we visited. He was very polite and took good care of our lunch and coffee breaks. Communication was not a problem at all as he spoke good English. I highly recommend the services of Daytrip in different parts of Europe.тАЭ

Excellent Trip!

тАЬMartin was our driver and he picked us up right on time. We travelled from Prague to Cesky Krumlov with a stop at Hluboka Castle. Nice clean vehicle and great conversation along the way. Everything was on schedule but Martin was flexible if we wanted to make any quick stops. We would highly recommend Day Trip as an excellent alternative to other modes of transportation.тАЭ
