Overview: car trip from Faro to Lisbon
Faro is one of the most charming cities in the world. If you've recently visited, you know how immersive the culture is in this city and how spectacular its natural beauty is, not to mention its intriguing historical roots. But if there's one place it doesn't outshine, it's Lisbon, so if you're planning a car trip from Faro to Lisbon, you've got much to look forward to.
Home to more than 500,000 people, Lisbon sprawls across seven hills. ItтАЩs a city of contrasts, with modern architecture alongside historical structures, creating a unique blend of cultures, lifestyles, and trends.
So, if you're set on traveling from Faro to Lisbon fast, are looking for door-to-door rental transportation, and want to explore this sunny city with its unique beauty, you should consider Daytrip. Our enthusiastic professional drivers might not be tour guides, but they know the region. They will help you learn more about the attractions in the area and give you a few useful tips.
About Lisbon
Lisbon, Portugal's capital is Europe's westernmost capital and is among its oldest urban hubs. Tracing back to pre-Celtic tribes before Phoenician arrival, Lisbon grew from a remote outpost, often referred to as the farthest end in the old world, into Portugal's exploration center during the 15th century.
Although it's known for many things, Lisbon is often visited for its stunning architecture, fantastic gastronomy, colorful ceramic tiles, and historic center. It also has a fascinating history filled with invasions, tyrannical rulers, destructions, and reconstructions that have made it a place to visit.
For example, despite a devastating 1755 earthquake, Prime Minister Sebasti├гo Jos├й de Carvalho e Melo revitalized the city with a redesigned layout, including two main squares marking its vibrant commercial and port zones. This reconstruction brought more tourism to the area.
Besides the numerous attractions and landmarks throughout the city, with seven hills overlooking the Tagus River, Lisbon also flaunts diverse neighborhoods like coastal Belem and resilient Mouraria.
If you are visiting to take in the sights, do not miss out on the iconic landmarks like S├гo Jorge Castle and Jer├│nimos Monastery that punctuate its skyline, or the UNESCO-listed Belem Tower down on the riverfront. The yellow trams, notably Tram 28, navigate Lisbon's historic streets, further enhancing its allure as a sunny, hospitable destination enriched by warm encounters and culinary delights.
From Faro to Lisbon: travel tips
Traveling from Faro to Lisbon is an exciting adventure. Even though these two Portuguese cities are not far from one another, the trip is exciting and filled with numerous sights along the way.
However, a fun drive between Faro and Lisbon can turn dastardly if you don't consider a few must-know travel tips.
Plan in advance for parking
Unfortunately, parking in Lisbon and places along the way to this city can be expensive and difficult. This is especially true in city centers and at attractions and landmarks. That's why it's important to research your parking locations in advance if you use a rental car to get to and around the city.
By researching the parking spots ahead of schedule, you'll be able to find safe parking with hassle-free access to attractions. Alternatively, you can hire a private driver with Daytrip who can take you from Faro to Lisbon and effortlessly navigate any parking you come across.
Wear comfortable shoes
It might seem big, but Lisbon is not as big as you might believe. You'll easily be able to walk the city if you decide to forgo the trams, subway, or business. Just ensure you wear uber-comfortable shoes, as there are many steep hills and cobblestone streets to navigate as you make your way to restaurants, attractions, and landmarks.
Stop for sightseeing
Lisbon has many attractions to see and activities to do, but you don't have to wait until you arrive to immerse yourself in Portuguese culture. There are numerous sightseeing opportunities along the way that you can visit when you ride with Daytrip!
Some of the best places to visit when traveling from Faro to Lisbon include Evora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with Roman ruins right in the middle of the historic old town, Alcacer do Sal, Quinta da Tor, and Palmela.
How to get from Faro to Lisbon
Journeying from the charming small town of Faro to the bustling city of Lisbon is a travel opportunity you don't want to miss. So, to ensure you're prepared to get from Faro to Lisbon, we've shared a few available travel options, from buses and speed trains to flights and private cars. Some options are cheaper than others, but traveling by car is likely your best bet.
Faro to Lisbon by flight
There's no denying that flights are usually the easiest way to get from one place to the next, but this is not necessarily the case when traveling from Faro to Lisbon.
Although there are numerous flights daily between these cities, with TAP Portugal тАУ the national airline тАУ and the flight takes only 45 minutes, the time it takes to get to the airport with the procedures can be time-consuming.
Not to mention a flight ticket price is roughly 70 euros, which is a small fortune for such a short trip.
Faro to Lisbon by bus
Often, the cheapest travel option to get from Faro to Lisbon is by bus. Unlike trains or airplanes, there are more than 15 bus trips daily through the Rede Expressos coach line between these two cities in Portugal.
A ticket for the bus costs between 15 and 20 euros one way, and the trip can take between three and a half and four hours to complete.
You will need to catch a bus at the bus station near the train station in Faro on the outskirts of the Old Town. You also need to check the timetable, as it can help you plan your day accordingly.
However, although the bus is cheaper, it isn't the most comfortable or roomy choice, and you might have to change coaches along the way.
Faro to Lisbon by train
The national railway carrier Comboios de Portugal offers five connections daily between Faro and Lisbon for those who want to travel by train, so be sure to check the timetable.
Depending on your Lisbon travel goals and preferences, you can choose between the Intercity train with more stops and connections or the Alfa Pendular high-speed train. The high-speed train usually completes the trip between Faro and Lisbon in three hours, with the Intercity train taking an average of three and a half hours to do the same.
Regardless of which train you choose, you can buy a ticket online at prices starting at 11 euros per ticket. Unfortunately, this train trip will allow you to see the spectacular scenery but no sightseeing stops.
Faro to Lisbon by private car
Often, the best way to travel from Faro to Lisbon is to drive with a private car service like Daytrip. Daytrip's luxury, well-maintained fleet offers clients 24-hour customer service alongside doorтАУtoтАУdoor services to ease your mind when traveling in a foreign country.
When you choose Daytrip, you can expect to make the trip in less than three hours, and you can add sightseeing stops along the way if there are a few places you don't want to miss out on (and honestly, why would you pass up the chance to see more of Portugal?). Trips start at 64 euros per person.
After you've seen all there is to see on the way, your friendly English-speaking driver will drop you off at your accommodation and take care of your luggage so that you can begin your Lisbon travel adventure.
Things to do when you get to Lisbon
Lisbon is arguably the friendliest and most lively European city. Since we know you're likely strapped for time and want to spend more time adventuring than compiling lists, we've shared a few things you can do when you get to Lisbon.
Monastery of the Hieronymites and Tower of Bel├йm
Lisbon's twin UNESCO World Heritage Sites stand at the pinnacle of Portuguese architecture and are testaments to the country's Age of Discoveries. The 16th-century monastery was built to give spiritual assistance to seafarers heading for the New World. The nearby Tower of Bel├йm was built a few years later to commemorate Vasco da Gama's expedition. Between the symbolism, architectural details, and waterfront setting, these are undoubtedly the symbols of Lisbon.
Ajuda National Palace
The 19th-century Ajuda National Palace is one of the best places to visit if you want to glimpse into the past and see what it was like for royalty in Lisbon. This palace is now a museum with one of the most beautiful collections of decorative art, from sparkling chandeliers and porcelain to gleaming marble statues and intricately woven tapestries.
When you visit, you'll see all of this and more since the museum uses rooms in the palace to exhibit contemporary artworks. It's all very grandeur and almost unbelievably decadent, but what do you expect from royalty?
LX Factory
If you fancy a bit of shopping, you'll want to stop at the LX Factory. The LX Factory is a renowned industrial complex in Lisbon that dates back to the 19th century.
This complex is now home to numerous enticing shops, bars, restaurants, and office spaces, so it's the perfect spot to buy all your holiday souvenirs while enjoying a bite to eat.
Those who want to visit can find the LX Factory in the far west of the city in Alcantara. This is an incredibly modern neighborhood that showcases the advancements Lisbon has seen in recent years.
Calouste Gulbenkian Museum
The Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, found on the Northern edge of Lisbon, is an art-filled oasis for travelers with a keen eye. This museum is not a tourist hot spot, so it is worth considering a look-see when in Lisbon, considering it is home to world-class pieces spanning 5,000 years of history.
For example, you'll get to see everything from Art Nouveau jewelry and Egyptian sculptures to John Singer Sargent paintings. There's also a beautiful garden with several gorgeous sculptures.
When is the best time to visit Lisbon
Part of planning a European trip is determining the best time to visit a place. If you have your sights set on Lisbon, you should note that the best time to visit is the Summer from May to September.
Unlike many other European cities, Lisbon is magnificent in the summer, with the temperatures not too hot or too cold to make visiting attractions tedious. The dry and warm weather welcomes balmy evenings, perfect for evening walks and restaurant or bar hopping.
In addition, if you visit in the summer, you're almost guaranteed to encounter days of sunshine, with the days long and July to August seeing more than 12 hours of sunlight.

Fantastic trip from Algarve to Lisbon
тАЬJust canтАЩt say enough great things about DayTrip, so glad I stumbled upon them while searching for transfer alternatives to flying. We had an amazing driver Ricardo pick us up at our hotel in the Algarve at 7:30 am then had a wonderful relaxing drive up through the Alentejo wine region to Lisbon. We took advantage of some itinerary suggestions From DayTrip and spent two hours in Evora and seeing as we were not driving, we got to enjoy some of the fantastic wines of the Alentejo region. Ricardo even accommodated a request to do a slight detour to the amazing hilltop village of Monsaraz- highly recommend seeing this ancient picturesque village. We then stopped off in Sesimbra on the coast before getting in to Lisbon. The service is top notch, Ricardo was promptly on time, his car was extremely clean and comfortable. He was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed our conversation as we drove through the beautiful Cork Oak studded hills. Definitely will use DayTrip again in Europe, itтАЩs a great way to travel, stress free and if you are limited on time a great way to see a country. Thanks DayTrip for making our trip to Portugal so memorableтАЭ
A Private Trip From Lisbon to Faro's district.
тАЬWe ordered a two-way trip from Lisbon to Faro's district and then back to Lisbon in one day. The communication was very smooth and understandable. Honesty, I am very grateful for Daytrip's impeccable service! Our driver Antonio was the best experienced driver I have ever worked with, spoke a perfect English and a very good individual! His charm and professionalism made our trip extremely enjoyable and enriching! I will definitely book with Daytrip again!тАЭ
Private transfer from Lisbon to Algarve.
тАЬOur daytrip was amazing, even though it was a holiday and some things were closed, we had an excellent time. Our driver Bruno made our trip amazing! We had a better time than expected. We would do the trip again. Highly recommend.тАЭ
тАЬHad a great trip with Ruben from Faro to Lisbon which included suggested stops at Evora and Palmela. Far better than flying-Ruben was a great guide and safe driver and was prepared to be flexible with stops as the cafe at Palmela was closed so took us to a local cafe and a short wine tasting. A great way to see the country. DonтАЩt fly-driveЁЯСНтАЭ
тАЬWe booked DayTrip to take us (3 couples) from Lisbon Airport to a villa in the Algarve. The driver was there to meet us when we exited the arrival hall and the ride was pleasant and uneventful....exactly what we needed after an overnight flight from Canada! There was a small challenge with fInding the villa but our driver quickly called the villa contact and determined how to get to the villa. We have also booked DayTrip to take us back to Lisbon.тАЭ
What a way to travel! Faro to Lisboa with a stop on the way
