Chiang Mai to San Pa Pao and Lampang: Private day trip

Founded in 1997, Botanical Tweechol is a 144 acre green oasis, making it one of the largest gardens in Thailand. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing day out while receiving a botanical education from the informative signs. Many opt to start their journey at the Huen Chaiharn Museum, which exhibits sacred Buddha images and ancient artifacts before heading to Center Point. This cluster of domes houses a rich variety of flora from different ecosystems including orchids, bromeliads, anthurium, colocasia, monotera, cacti and succulents. In the dedicated Palm Garden there are 58 species of palm from around the world, including specimens from South America and Japan. If you’d prefer to just stretch your legs, the car-free path provides a scenic place to walk or ride a rented bike. Founded in the 13th century, and built atop an ancient fortress, Wat Phra That Lampang Luang hasn’t changed much over the years. Visitors must first pass through the fortified walls via an elegant entrance gate, guarded by two lion statues before being able experience the temple’s historic treasures. Within the compound visitors are treated to several historic ordination halls, the centerpiece of which is the open-sided Viharn Luang, a 15th century building decorated inside with gold on black lacquer, beautiful murals, dominated by an elaborate golden ku. The temple’s Viharn Nam Tam, was built in the early 16th century and believed to be the oldest wooden temple building in Thailand still in its original state, and houses some beautiful murals. This leads to a traditional 15th century Lanna-style golden chedi said to enshrine one of Buddha’s hairs.
