Rijeka is Croatia’s third largest city and the the largest city of the Kvarner region. It hosts many festivals and is home to the largest and most popular carnival in Croatia. It also houses the City Tower, Roman Arch, Church of St. Vitus, and the National Theater. Far above the city is the Trsat Castle. This 13th century fortress offers a perfect view of Rijeka. The city is also a popular destination for swimmers, with many swim spots located near the city center.

Opatija is located in western Croatia. It lies at the center of the Riviera with an impressive 12 km long coastal promenade. Opatija was the most fashionable resort during the Austro-Hungarian empire. Today, the laidback town is home to various grand spa hotels. It also has many green areas, including well-kept parks and beaches to relax in and enjoy. A multitude of cultural and entertainment events are held in town throughout the year. Sveti Jakov, a Benedictine church complex situated in the town center, is one Opatija’s most notable sights. Also worth exploring is The Croatian Museum of Tourism. The permanent exhibition houses relics from the late 19th and 20th centuries. Opatija’s temperate climate, grand spa hotels, and various historical monuments continue to make the town a top destination spot today.
