Saint Lucia

Balenbouche Plantation

Once a sugar plantation, this eco-friendly heritage site features a well-preserved sugar mill and plantation house, lush walking trails, and an organic farm.

About

Hidden away amongst vibrant forests and quiet beaches on St Lucia’s south coast is Balenbouche Plantation, a captivating 60-acre (24-hectare) ecotourism site rich in heritage, culture, and nature. Formerly a colonial sugar plantation between the 1700s to the 1930s, in 1964 the Lawaetz family moved into the estate and slowly transformed it into an eco-friendly heritage and nature site. Tour the well-maintained sugar mill, plantation house, and grounds where you will find well-maintained gardens flourishing with orchids and an organic farm where tropical fruits such as coconuts, avocados, and mangoes grow. Take a short walk along one of the lush nature trails to reach one of the secluded beaches nearby, for a peaceful moment amongst the waves. The site is open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Entrance tickets are not included in our price and must be purchased separately. Self guided tours are possible but guided tours must be booked in advance separately from our service.
