Basilique Notre-Dame de l'Epine

Covered with ornate ornamentation, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a Flamboyant Gothic masterpiece.

About

Begun in 1405, construction on the Basilica of Our Lady of the Thorn lasted until 1527. The facade features exceptional gargoyles, and masterful stonework. Its two towers are different height because the left spire was altered to allow the installation of a telegraph in 1798. Inside, visitors will find several exceptional statues, such as the 14th century Venerated Virgin, 15th century Seated Virgin, and 17th century St. Jacques. In the rood screen, visitors will find the legendary statue that gave the cathedral its name. The 16th century tribune is also of interest, as along with eight apostles, it depicts seven pagan gods.
