Bermuda
Journey back in time with a visit to Bermuda’s smallest chapel, loaded with important history from the 1600s and surrounded by lush gardens.
In Sandys parish lies the incredibly lush 44-acre Heydon Trust park, featuring Bermuda’s smallest church: the 1620-built Heydon Chapel. This cottage-like church maintains old Bermudian traditions such as almost daily Gregorian chats and other plainchants, dating back to Pope Gregory the Great. Visitors are welcome to join the non-denominational morning services, or simply visit later in the day to learn more about the church’s careful preservation of Bermuda’s early colonial religious traditions. The park surrounding the chapel is just as charming as the building itself, with plenty of open space for visitors to enjoy a stroll through meticulously tended gardens, including sections of flower and fruit groves a well as a bird sanctuary. On the hillside nearest to the chapel, an outdoor seating area with religious icons grants visitors a serene place for a moment of rest or contemplation.
