This research and education center want to teach the public that snakes and other cold-blooded creatures aren’t to be feared.
The Kinyonga Reptile Centre was founded by renowned herpetologist Donald Strydom, who’s appeared on National Geographic and Discovery Channel, in an area with a thriving snake population. Because there are frequent interactions between people and snakes here, this area of the Limpopo Province is a prime destination for reptile research and public education. Many people have an unfounded fear of snakes and other “creepy-crawlies” - a sentiment that’s deeply rooted in superstition, particularly in Africa, and the Kinyonga Reptile Centre will help you overcome yours. Along with educating you about the many reptiles housed here, the experienced handlers will show you some of Africa’s most venomous snakes including the infamous Black Mamba. Once you’ve gotten more comfortable around them, you’ll have the chance to handle some of the center’s harmless residents. For more information, please visit kinyonga.net
