The exquisite gardens surrounding this Victorian home are the result of one man’s passion for botany.
Between 1865 and 1954, Myddelton House Gardens were the domain of Edward Augustus Bowles, one of Britain’s most famous self-taught gardeners, artists, and expert botanists. Bowles dedicated much of his life to transforming the gardens, filling them with exotic plants. Today, visitors can enjoy the colorful ‘Alpine Meadow’, or discover unusual plants in the ‘Lunatic Asylum’. There’s also a serene beautiful carp lake, and a Victorian conservatory, divided into climatic zones. In the house museum, visitors can learn about the creator and see his eclectic collection of treasured artefacts, including a piece from the original St. Paul’s Cathedral.
