A long stretch of white sand borders the undulating waters of Santa Barbara Beach, renowned for its watersports and picturesque views. With the bay making an angular cut, it is almost as though there are two beaches at this dramatically formed destination, skirted by majestic cliffs. The ASP World Tour stage takes place in the area in September of each year, where a hundred surfers from around the world come to tackle the rolling waves. To the east of the beach, at its entrance, the abandoned ruins of World War II casemates remain standing from 1942, once used to house batteries of coastal artillery. Showers, a bar and a restaurant also line the beach, while dunes provide a scenic backdrop and hiking trails line the edges. Have a dip, relax on the shore and enjoy a cocktail at this famous destination on the island of Sao Miguel.
