Steinsdalsfossen Waterfall

One of Norway’s most popular waterfalls cascades beautifully from a cliff’s edge in the village of Steine, basked in natural surroundings and local legend.

About

Steinsdalsfossen is a stunning waterfall located in Kvam municipality and is one of the most visited attractions in the region, drawing in people from all over the world to witness its beauty. Walk behind the waterfall and remain completely dry to experience the thundering cascade from a unique perspective. A well maintained path leading to a vantage point allows you to walk safely behind the falls, and then admire the beautiful view of Norheimsund and the entire Steinsdalen valley. Steinsdalsfossen rises 46 meters high and has a main drop of 20 meters, creating an unforgettable rumbling sound. The Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany would visit the falls every summer from 1889 until the start of World War I in 1914 as a personal favorite holiday location. In addition to its natural beauty and historical significance, Steinsdalsfossen is also steeped in local folklore which says that a woman once fled from her pursuer by hiding behind the waterfall. It became known as the “bride’s veil” and is a popular location for weddings and celebrations, with a tourist office and cafe just nearby.
