Hungary
Visit a peculiar cemetery, where all graves are marked in a unique way.
Szatmárcseke is a small Hungarian village nearby the Ukranian border and at first sight does not step out of the ordinary. Not until you visit the local cemetery. All approximately 600 graves feature boat-shaped markers from dark oak with human-like faces carved in. The tradition of this practice is shrouded in a mystery as some believe the boat-shaped marker to symbolize the death being just part of the soul's journey while others believe this symbolism to do with the way how their ancestors were buried. Where one or the other is true, this cemetery deserves your attention.
