Brunei Darussalam
Brunei’s only ASEAN Heritage Park is a precious gem of the country, where nature’s beauty and cultural heritage unite in the meandering trails and research centers of the complex.
Taman Warisan Tasek Merimbun is a stunning heritage park, whose name pays homage to the Dusun folklore hero, Imbun. Indeed, the grounds look like something straight out of a folklore story, with sprawling wildlife and breathtaking views. The park’s main attraction is the black water lake, whose unique color is a result of tannins from decomposed plant matter seeping into the water. Tasek Merimbun boasts diverse forests and has become a habitat for a variety of wildlife, and even rare species like the White-collared Fruit bat have been spotted during field studies. Explore the exhibition hall, researcher’s quarters, Banunih Trail, Merimbun Botanical Trial, and the whimsical Butterfly Garden, all of which remain untouched and offer an immersive experiential travel experience. You’ll be left dreaming of the floating lotus leaves reflecting on the black water’s surface. Entry to the park is free of charge.
